Mulefoot Boars
The characteristics of the Mulefoot Boars, like the Sows, have a smaller head in proportion of body size with greater width between eyes, boars have straight faces with medium length ears that are somewhat pointed. Boars bellies hang straight and fully carrying well out to the sides. The boar’s legs and feet are medium size and set well apart from the body. The boar’s tails are medium length, with good tapering. The boars coat is moderately thick and black in color. Boars weigh around 150 at 6 months of age, around 300 pounds at 1 year old, around 375 pounds at 1.5 year old, and at age 2 and above they range from 500-600 pounds. Mulefoot boars do not carry most swine diseases or carry hog cholera. Our boars are selected for their breed characteristics, and temperament, and we also decide to keep them based on the offspring they father in regards to taste, and meat quality. Only the top picks of the top litters are chosen to become part of our breeding program.
We have one specific boar that was legendary for producing amazing litters, great traits, and amongst the best Mulefoot we had tasted. He also produced offspring which body type would produce more bacon and better cuts than the typical Mulefoot. We didn’t own him, but had learned about him through another breeder. We made inquiries, travelled hundreds of miles, but he is now in our breeding program and helping Midwest Mulefoot Ranch produce top quality Mulefoot pork, and helping us sire even more amazing litters.
